About

Harcourt has found himself sent to Hell. This is his story.

***

Working from home can be isolating so several times a week I go for lunch at my favourite restaurant in downtown Fredericton. It’s called Isaac’s Way. It’s almost a Cheers thing since I’m a regular by now. I know Jason and Tina and Kristin and Tabitha and Jesse … just about everyone. I usually sit at the bar, get a Stella Artois and order lunch.

What has that to do with Harcourt Goes to Hell? This: Harcourt began as scribbles – words and drawings – I would do idly as I ate and chatted with people at Isaac’s. After a while I realized I had quite a few of them and thought, “Why not see where it goes?”

So Harcourt Goes to Hell is me seeing where it goes. I guess it could be called a hobby.

If I were doing this properly and seriously and so on, I probably wouldn’t put any of it online. I would wait till it was done (whatever that would be) then edit, fix, revise … the usual thing that gussies a thing up and makes it suitable for public consumption.

I thought it would be more interesting to put it up and watch it evolve as it happened, warts and all, as the expression goes.

Is it total silliness? Possibly. Is it good for my personal, professional “branding”? Not likely. Is it worth anyone’s time? Maybe no, maybe yes.

I can say this, though: It’s fun. At least for me.
